Taught using Windows XP and MS-Office 2007 with skills transferable to older versions, keyboarding experience is helpful. 
All classes to be held at the MTI Technology Center, 1800 E. Spruce, unless otherwise noted.

 

Windows XP

Choose the most convenient time to learn this popular and most current Windows Operating System.  Learn to use Windows XP, work with Windows programs, manage files and folders, customize Windows using the Control Panel, and maintain your computer with Windows applications. Two options for this course.

MS-Word 2007 (Introduction)

Learn to use this popular Word-Processing application, including: creating, saving, opening, and printing files; working with and editing text; formatting characters and paragraphs; formatting pages; working with tables.

Continue your Micro-Soft Word training while working with templates and styles; using graphics; performing a mail merge; document collaboration; working with outlines and long documents; using WordArt and charts, creating forms; and other advanced topics. If you have used MS-Word before jump right in to these advanced tasks. Two options for this course  Prerequisite: MS-Word(Introduction).

Become familiar with tables, forms, reports, and queries; creating and working with a database; finding, filtering, and formatting data, working with tables and fields, understanding relational databases.  MS-Access can be used to organize and manage small to very large amounts of information.

Internet/Email                                                                       

This four-hour class will introduce you to popular Internet WebBrowsers, and common email programs. Learn to use a personal distribution list, recalling, printing, and moving messages.  Learn effective search technique and useful tips to maximize your time on the web. Two options for this course.

Digital Cameras and Scanners

Join the Digital Revolution. This class provides an introduction to digital photography. Students completing this class will learn the basics of using a digital camera and a scanner, how they work and what to look for when you buy them.  Most of today’s computers can manipulate digital images allowing you to email or print your favorite photos.

QuickBooks (Finance)                                                         

Learn this popular financial management software over a 2-day period.  The book provided will allow training for setting up QuickBooks charts of accounts, bank accounts, payments and deposits, paying bills and analyzing financial data.

PhotoShop Elements                                                            

Adobe PhotoShop Elements allows you to alter photographs to prepare them for print or the Web.  In this class you will learn how to use the tool palette, about manipulating images, the color palette, layers, filters, working with text, and photo retouching. PhotoShop Elements is the more reasonable priced consumer version of the professional grade Photoshop. Prerequisite:  Prior Windows Experience

Digital Video Production w/Pinnacle Studio 

Learn the fun you can have by digitizing your home movies, or using the new Digital Video Cameras to build your own video productions.  Participants will learn how to use low-cost video editing software to build slideshows and videos to give to family and friends.

Troubleshooting and Maintaining PC’s for Non-Techies

Learn more about the hardware of your computer system in a non-threatening environment. These four sessions will teach you the basics of pinpointing, diagnosing and solving hardware and software malfunctions; and upgrading and boosting your system’s performance.

In this “hands-on” and demonstration class you will learn about the operating system and troubleshooting component installation problems; power problems; BIOS/CMOS problems; boot problems; and drive, directory and file problems.  Learn about doing regular PC “maintenance” and MUCH MORE.  On the final session participants are encouraged to bring in their own computer if they wish.  Enrollment for this class is limited to 10.

AutoCAD

Students will learn how to create & edit professional 2D drawings! This introductory course shows the AutoCAD 2006 interface but it can be used to learn both AutoCAD and LT using the 2006 versions. Even students with no previous CAD experience can progress quickly through the 12 modules in this course which are arranged in a natural sequence that is easy to understand. Students immediately apply what they have learned from brief theory presentations in hands-on exercises using supplied drawing files. These exercises include step-by-step instructions along with clearly illustrated screen captures.  Learning transferable to older versions of AutoCAD

Buying and Selling on eBay                                               

Learn to join the millions of people daily who buy and sell on the largest and most successful online auction site in the world. Participants will create an eBay account and learn the best tips and tricks to manage their purchase or sale on eBay. This is a hands-on interactive training. No previous eBay experience necessary.

The CCNA curriculum includes the following components:

CCNA 1 – Networking Basics (Ethernet technologies, cabling, TCP/IP, IP addressing, routing)

CCNA 2 – Routers and Routing Basics (router configuration, protocols, access control lists)

CCNA 3 – Switching Basics and Intermediate Routing (VLSM, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANS)

CCNA 4 – WAN Technologies (Frame Relay, NAT, PAT and DHCP)
