Customized Welding Training
Tailored to meet specific company training needs and using the latest technology available, customized welding programs are developed in partnerships with the company or organization requesting the course. Training may be held on-site or at the NEW Mitchell Technical Institute Welding Training Center.

Workforce Development Grants may be available to qualifying employers, Contact the Business/Industry Training office for more information.

MTI Welding Training Center
The Welding Training Center with adjoining training classroom is available to meet the welding training needs of both individuals and industry

The NEW welding training center includes 14 spacious weld booths outfitted with the latest welding technologies. Multi-process welders allow participants to weld steel, pipe, stainless and aluminum utilizing standard and push-pull guns. Industrial TIG machines allow for training of TIG welding of steel, pipe, stainless and aluminum utilizing 3/32 - 1/4 tungsten. Additional equipment available for use, include Acetylene Gas Torches, Plasma Torch, Band and cut-off saws.

Our experienced adjunct instructors are employed with local manufacturers and are familiar modern manufacturing weld processes.

All courses include training materials, protective equipment, weld material, consumables and the use of all equipment in the Welding Lab.

Welding courses currently available are listed below along with a brief course outline. Customized welding training is available for industry as needed. Scheduled start dates depend on enrollment; call MTI Business/Industry Training for more information.

CLASSES AVAILABLE:

Pipe Welding with Certification Exam - 52 Hours
SMAWP

This class will prepare an experienced Arc Welder in a safe manner the proper procedures to accomplish a 6G A.W.S. welding certification. Participants will learn to correctly prepare and weld various sizes of pipe. Using 2", 4" and 6" O.D. schedule 40 pipe with E6010/E7018 uphill filler metal. Certification test given by our Proctor and submitted for testing and certification with a testing center.

Gas Metal and Gas Tungsten Arc Aluminum Welding - 40 Hours
GMAW/GTAW(Aluminum)

This course will prepare those with previous welding experience to use both MIG and TIG processes to become successful production welders using Aluminum of varying grades and thicknesses and the most common weld types. This course will include (40) hours of instruction provided during multiple classes with varying objectives.

Gas Metal Arc Welding - 60 Hours
GMAW

This is an introductory course specifically designed for an individual that has interest in the welding field. During instruction time of (60) hours the student will be educated in the field of understanding the concept of basic welding characteristics with understanding of welding symbols, and other specific modern techniques. The student on completion of this course will understand how to safely manipulate and weld with a MIG welding machine along with the proper operations of a Plasma Torch.

Skill Improvement Welding - 20 Hours
During this training, participants can boost their welding skill in a number of areas or concentrate on improving in one particular process or position. Skills areas to choose from include: Stick, MIG, TIG, Aluminum and multiple position welding.

Ag Welding - 20 Hours
Training designed for those who want to repair their own equipment
Conveniently scheduled over the noon hour on Saturdays participants will learn proper techniques for repairing broken equipment or re-welds. Participants will learn about basic metallurgy, electrode or wire selection, welding unlike materials, determining weld settings. Weld Processes will include GMAW, SMAW, SMAWP in multiple positions.

Symbols for Welding - 10 hours
This course is designed for those who need to learn the AWS welding symbol system. Participants will learn the elements of welding symbols to prevent errors between designer and welder which will ensure quality of weld processes.

Blueprint Reading for Welders and Fitters - 10 hours
This course is broken into three sections. Included are Manufacturing Math and Metrics, Blue Print Reading for Welders and Blue Print Reading for Fitters.
