Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Training and 608 Testing

Tuesday, March 18th, 9 am - 4 pm

What is included in the training manual

The manual you will receive includes all the information needed to prepare a HVACR technician to become EPA-certified to recover and contain refrigerant from both high and low pressure air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Topics include: refrigerant chemistry and applications; refrigerant oils and application; ozone depletion and global warming Montreal Protocol; Clean Air Act and EPA regulations; recovery/recycling/reclamation; container/safe handling of refrigerants; conservation/equipment servicing and testing; waste oil; high pressure/low pressure industrial commercial chillers.

What the instruction will include

The four hours of instruction available prior to testing will include emphasis on specific areas you should know from the topics covered in the training manual. Instruction and the manual will not include training or information about HVACR system operations. Certification requirements expect that you are an HVACR technician and questions relating to your HVACR knowledge are on the test. The instruction time is not required for you to take the test. Prior national testing has shown that 92% who took the prescribed pre-test instruction were certified.

What the test will include

The test is four sections of 25 questions each. To pass the test you must correctly answer a minimum of 18 questions in each section. The test includes a core section relating to environmental impact of CFCs and HCFCs; the Clean Air Act and EPA regulations; Type I Small Appliance; Type II High Pressure and Very High Pressure; and Type III Low Pressure. Universal Certification is for all three above types.

What the manual, instruction and testing will not cover

All of the above covers section 608 of the Clean Air Act. It does not cover section 609 under which auto air conditioning falls.

Certificates and Wallet Cards

The ESCO Institute Inc. will issue EPA approved certificates and wallet cards to those who pass the test. The cost is included in the testing fee. You will also be notified if you fail.
